- Utilizing the development programme designed by APFA and Chelsea Football Club
The PPCFC Elite Academy integrates internationally-recognised key features of player development into an annual programme that is tailored to the specific needs of the individual, giving the players every opportunity to fulfill their potential.
The Academy only selects players with exceptional potential from all over Cambodia. We work closely with provincial coaches and clubs to help identify talented players. We are not only interested in developing great football players; we are also aiming to develop great people.
Contemporary research suggests that elite sportsmen and women require at least 10,000 hours of practice, during their development, to achieve at the highest level. The players at the Academy will have the opportunity of training six days per week, 45 weeks per year with no disruption to the player's academic schedule.
The Academy aims to develop each player to enable him to reach his potential. Having the opportunity to train and play every day under qualified coaches will not only help the individual's skill levels but also help develop a better understanding of the game.
For young footballers to transfer learning into performance it is essential that the correct competitive balance is maintained. The Academy will be looking to arrange as many games as possible to give the players the opportunity to put into practice what they have been doing on the training field. We will also look to give the players some international exposure by participating in regional invitational tournaments.
The Academy is dedicated to developing well-rounded, technically gifted players with the aim of developing players to represent the Cambodian national football team in the years to come.
The Academy's approach to the development of young players places a strong emphasis on the importance of the individual's academic studies. Players who do not fulfill their educational requirements may lose their place in the Academy. Players need to appreciate the importance of education to help prepare them for life during and after their football career.
Chelsea Football Club
APFA, who work closely with Chelsea Football Club, will help PPCFC's Elite Football Academy in the development of the coaching programmes and basic curriculum.
Through APFA's association with Chelsea FC, PPCFC Elite Football Academy will be adopting the best practice from one of England's most successful Academies and youth programmes which has produced players such as England's international captain, John Terry.
The Academy is housed in a purpose-built center at the club's Tuol Kork training facility.
